Behind the brand

Lowman is a small shop in Oakland, California. We make leather motorcycle helmets by hand — one at a time, without shortcuts. The work is slow. The materials are uncompromising. That is the whole of it.

Who we are

We are a small team of makers working out of Oakland. Every helmet that leaves this shop has been cut, fitted, and finished by hand — buffalo leather shell, hand-cut calfskin liner, solid brass hardware.

We source full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather exclusively from American tanneries: Horween in Chicago, Wickett & Craig in Pennsylvania, Hermann Oak in St. Louis. Houses that have been operating since the 1800s. Their standards are ours.

No synthetics. No overseas assembly. No volume for its own sake.

Our values

Make it correctly. Every material is selected for what it does, not what it costs to source. The process does not change because convenience asks it to.

Source it honestly. American tanneries. Named mills. Suppliers we stand behind. We know where everything comes from because we chose it.

Build it to last. We are not interested in products that need replacing. The right object, made well, only gets better. That is what we are building toward.
